I Am Croatian
I grew up in Krk, in the island of the same name, which vies with the neighbouring island of Cres for the title of largest island in Croatia. It's the most accessible of the Kvarner islands, and is the most popular destination for holidays in the region.
Krk town is blessed with sturdy defensive walls from the Roman period, the Venetians added much five hundred years ago. My favourite place as a child was Katedrala Uznesenja constructed since the sixth century but largely updated by the seventeenth century.
Life for me was disjointed there as it had been in Italy, but I think of Krk as home.
