I Feel Guilty

My mother called me because her dearly loved goat was in labor - first time.. This isn't a typical goat - she's a pet/family to my mom. There were two babies. After 8 hours the first was stillborn. After three hours, the second ones head was barely visible, and she couldn't push the baby out. I looked online for advice and kept getting information that assistance by pulling it out was necessary after that length of time. My mom tried.. It was early in the morning n she called the second the vets office opened. They took her in and said the second baby was also stillborn. Then they said they had to put the mom down because her uterus was torn up. I'm so afraid it was my advice that caused the damage.. =(

There was nothing your mom could do. As a kid I would always get excited when the new foals, kids, calves were being born. Oh and the piglets. There is nothing cuter than baby pigs. I hope that you can find rest and your mom finds peace knowing you did all you could do. My sister has a Nubian goat that is her son's "dog". It sleeps in a dog bed at the foot of his bed and everything. He lets it into the back yard in the morning and they play outside but when it gets dark Quinn is ready to come inside with her little boy. He has a pig too. His name is Bacon. ;)
