I Am a Manager

I am thankful to have the opportunity that I have for what I do. Some say I'm a hard man but most love me very much. I believe I am very fair but ultimately my job is to make sure they all have jobs and we have happy customers. For professional reasons, I won't mention the name of the company or names of the co-workes. I've learned a lot of interesting things and I love to learn. I've learned not to judge a book by its cover. One day a man came to me begging for a job. He was dressed in work clothing and it was not what I was used to. His hair was clean cut and combed. He was shaved with a decent gotee. As I spoke with him, I noticed that he was intelligent and seemed to be respectful and honest. This was clear to me when he mentioned to me that he had a suit for weddings and funerals but he doesn't like to look like someone he is not during an interview. I was floored but kept myself very straight and normal. I was quite impressed with the man. He said his company was closing their doors. After a bit more conversation, I finished by telling him I will get In touch in a couple of days to say yes or no. I watched as he drove off in an old rusty Chevy pick up. Turns out that his last job checked out. In his Facebook page I found that he had a lot of involvement with a local Christian church and been so for some time. Long story short, I hired him three years ago. He is very reliable, respectable and honest. Six months ago I bought him a brand new Chevy service truck to use In my company. No joke... He keeps this thing very waxed and polished and does it on his own time at home. These types of people are very hard to find and I learned a lot from him. So never judge a book by its cover. He still works here and hopefully will retire nicely one day.

Nice story.. in my limited experience most or many managers are one step past their ability level ... They use rules to cover themselves and humanity is a foreign concept
@ozgirl512 People who follow me will soon find out that humanity, respect for one another, common courtesy, and a helping hand is very big In my book. You are so right that this is so foreign. It wasn't but just a few years ago that it was the way of life. I struggle hard with today's new self-centered rudeness that people exhibit. I'm only 49 years old but things are changing for the worst so fast and it scares me. I Strive to be different. It works well for me surprisingly. The man I mentioned earlier actually wants to take very good care of my tools and equipment. His truck is the only one that has his name above the company logo and glossy tires. I would loan him anything that belongs to me. I would not do that for most others. He even makes sure all company vehicles get their maintence on time. Its not even in his job title. Vehicles rarely have expensive breakdowns. He saves us a large fortune. I reward him well for this. People these days often don't care about their own stuff let alone someone else's property. Imagine how nice it would be if more people could care for and love more for one another.
