I Am Celtic

By family tradition, I'm about a third Scots and a wee bit of Irish. This is approximately backed up by Ancestry DNA, which says my genetics include 20% Ireland and Scotland, and 57% England, Wales, and Northwestern Europe – which of course includes a fair bit of Celtic admixture. So, yep, I'm Celtic! Not pure Celtic (got a lot of Norse and Germanic in there, too), but definitely Celtic...

My heritage is very similar.
I was wondering how Ancestry broke down
Irish, Scottish, English and Welsh.
Interesting

@cheesenpickles I thought so! :-) There's some overlap, but of course that's historical, too – there was a good bit of traveling, trading, and intermarriage going on there, for many centuries.

Ancestry.com's "Ethnicity Estimate" for me, by DNA:

England, Wales & Northwestern Europe 57%
Ireland & Scotland 20%
Germanic Europe 10%
Norway 8%
Sweden 2%
Finland 2%
Baltic States 1%

The only thing that was significantly different than I expected (and still not too radical) was that 8% Norway and only 2% Sweden – family tradition held that we had Swedish, but never mentioned Norwegian!

@OlderGent1965 I would be happy with those results. Fascinating countries with rich history and culture.

Did that test signify if you were related to anyone else in their database?

I am very happy with them! And yes, they are. I think it's cool that I apparently even have a touch of Finnish and Baltic. :-)

Hakkaa Päälle! ;-)

I haven't really looked into the relational aspect of it, to be honest. Was mainly interested in how the genetics squared with my family history. But I probably should!
