I Lack A Close Relationship With My Father
I'm happy for everyone who does but I'm avoiding social media today because of all the tributes.
I'll make a polite call to mine today because it's the right thing to do. It will be short and small talk only as our calls always are.
He has 4 children none of whom he raised though he did raise 4 step-children. All 4 of us grew up in abject poverty but we've all managed to carve out decent lives for ourselves.
He makes loads of promises but never follows through. The only one of us he's very close to is the one son.
He's had multiple chances to step up and be a father but he has no follow-through. His rooster-fighting and hunting buddies know him better than his children.
So forgive me if I don't share in the tributes and fondness you share for your father's and this day. DNA does not make a man a father. Actions do.
