Can I refuse corporal punishment?

I go to a school in Texas that allows corporal punishment. My mom gave the school consent but I’m 18 and legally an adult. Don’t I have the right to make that decision?

I would think that you have the right to withdraw the consent which was given on your behalf by your parents. However that might also mean that you would have to withdraw from the school.

Why would you want to? If you broke the rules, man up and take the licks. It only hurts for a few minutes but it rewires your brain in several good ways. You will look back on this with pride that you honorably received the consequences.

@Glambarber I bet your statement applies to most people but I grew up receiving CP and all were fair and earned. Fortunately, I am no longer in that position as I have learned how to behave as an adult should.

@Glambarber Just to clarify, I was never falsely accused. Don't know about laws in your country, but in the US, even in school discipline cases, the accused has the right to have an investigation and the charges proven. If there is any doubt, the school would do well to not punish lest the parents of student file a lawsuit.

Simple answer: follow the school rules, get out in the real world

I think so. Lucky that you didn't go to my school. The teachers beat and raped students.
@Success The makings of a horror movie! Nuns be scary!

@FigNewton Already done.
@Success A nuns versus clowns movie would be the scariest of all! But I digress....

Idk
You’d have to look at the law where you are
I’d assume at 18 you’re an adult and would be able to just walk out of the school if you wanted

As a legal adult corporal punishment would be assault and battery.

Be a good boy, and it will not happen

UPDATE: Was informed that while I have the right to drop out, if I choose to go to school I pretty much have to go with their rules. Ended up having to swallow my pride. Really appreciate all the advice though, thanks guys.

If you're 18 you should know better than to get into that situation
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@filmmaker at that age you shouldnt need it.
Adults should act like adults🤷‍♂️
filmmaker · 22-25, M
@Virgo79 Exactly. If I’m an adult it shouldn’t even be up for discussion
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
I think you may be missing his point. Namely that if you behave like an adult why on earth would punishment (of any sort) be deemed necessary. @filmmaker
Yes. As an 18 year old anyone putting hands on you against your wishes can be charged with assault. You legally can leave the school, look for work and live on your own, if you’re willing to go and do that.

@bijouxbroussard I still live with my mom, it’s a charter school
@filmmaker Ok, so that means you’re not involved in that atmosphere 24/7. It shouldn’t be a problem to focus on schoolwork and graduating during the time that you’re there.

@bijouxbroussard yeah I know, I get good grades and usually stay out of trouble and everything but the reason I asked the question is cuz basically I just got into some trouble and I’m trying to avoid the punishment. My principal said if my mom gave consent I pretty much have no choice.
