I Grew Up With An Emotionally Abusive Family Member

My dad just ignored us. It was more mental abuse than emotional. He could be negative and that was difficult to live with,
I also remember trusting my older brother more than my dad. Two examples... My first time going down a slide at the hotel pool I didn't want dad catching me, but my brother who was 5 years older than me. Second time was going sledding at night and I would not go down on my dad's back, but my brother's. I trusted him more than dad if something happened.
As a kid I could go days without talking to him. He suffered depression and was addicted to pain medications. He was just absent mentally. If things went wrong he was quick to show his frustrations and make others feel miserable. As a kid I latched on to my brothers and my mother for companionship, advice, and when I got lonely.

I had a great mother who did everything. He suffered depression and self medicated with prescription meds. He just couldn't be there mentally.
