What does it mean to you to be true to yourself?

Living by my own values and beliefs, and not by those of others. Being my authentic self.

It can be very difficult if one's beliefs and values don't conform to family or societal values, so it's not an easy thing to do. It may mean alienation from family (or your own culture), so many just go with the flow in order to be accepted.

I agree. I finally realized the only person that needs to be accepted is yourself.

That was after so many stopped accepting me when I stopped going with the flow. :)

Justpeace, one must be prepared to "go it alone" and face non-acceptance from some for being your own person.

I usually point to a quote from Krishnamurti: "it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society."
