I Hate the Ugly American

That's the term for when people go to foreign countries and don't even attempt to respect the local culture and assume it's supposed to be just like in their country or region. Hello you are in another country what did you expect? They demand that they can act the same way and dress the same way even to point of disrespecting local culture which in turn makes people react negatively towards them. I mean it's one thing to make a mistake and apologize but intentional rudeness is ridiculous if you want it to be like back where you live then don't come. What's the point of traveling if you aren't willing focus at least try to respect local customs and immerse yourself a bit in a foreign culture and try to at least learn basic phrases in their languages? Why go overseas to eat mcdonalds instead of broadening your mindset and life experiences? You don't have to give up your values or personal style or comfort but at least attempt to understand the customs and make an effort if you are voluntarily traveling somewhere

For quite a lot of people where I come from (the UK) holidays are a chance to do more of what they enjoy doing at home, only with better weather.
