What are some local traditions you have that you think are useless?

@Mardrae yeah have heard so many people griping about how much they spend on Christmas, not just the gifts but the food, decorations etc. They aren’t willing to give up their tradition and piss & moan about it instead.

@cherokeepatti exactly!!! I remember a customer at my work years ago was practically crying because her 4 year old grandson wanted an iPad for Christmas and she couldn't afford it. I looked at her and said " so why don't you simply say no, and not even celebrate this year?" She looked at me like I was crazy. People can't figure me out when I have to ask when holidays are, because I simply don't celebrate any of them.

@Mardrae People don’t even celebrate Jesus as much as they celebrate gift exchanges…I’ve wondered if such celebrations just reinforce materialism in children that they carry throughout their lives and many get deep into credit card debt due to it. Some of my best finds at yard sales are brand-new still in the boxes of things that people said they got as Christmas gifts and never had a use for.

@cherokeepatti I'm not Christian, but I can imagine that would be the case for sure.
