If Florida is a Southern state, why do so many of the residents have Northern Accents?

I live in North Carolina, a lot of people who move here from Florida have Northern style accents rather than Southern.

I think the reason is related to the reason why, up here in Minnesota, we don't hear many southern accents.

Northern Florida (the panhandle) and parts of central Florida could be considered the South, but once you get closer to South Florida (especially the more densely populated areas) you see much more snowbirds (with their Northern accents). There are a few places in southern Florida that could be considered the south, but not many.

They do tend to get a lot of flack around here because people think they are trying to change things and buying up mountain property.

Because it’s filled with older people from the north seeking warmer weather and swinger parties

Unless you go far inland most people in Florida are from the north.
