I Like Foreign and Independent Films

yw :) Been collecting for over a decade, started by reading reviews for certain directors films like Bergman, Godard, Fellini, Herzog, and kept going ... Three name highlights have been - Marco Ferreri, Sergei Paradjanov, Dusan Makavejev.

Russ Meyer's Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill a classic which John Waters called the best of all time, haha .... for some reason i feel like mentioning Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding, for something not strange.

Also helps to know what to avoid, one being a Japanese movie called St. John's Wort, that is awful, as is Iskanov's Visions of Suffering.

The Cremator - Juraj Herz

Part of the Czech new wave of the 60's, brief but exciting, also in this are Fruits of Paradise (my favorite), Daisies, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, Marketa Lazarova. Also compare with the short films of Jan Svankmajer.

{edit} - Can't believe i forgot one of the essential Czech films here, if you see and enjoy Daisies and Fruit of Paradise - Birds, Orphans, and Fools will be just as great, dazzling and crazy as those.

Yes, I've seen Alice, very well done. Till now i've only seen one other feature length of his Lunacy which isn't that good, but his others seem promising, can't say enough good things for his short films though.

Luis Bunuel's films might be of interest too, Phantom of Liberty could be good place to start.

Yeah, I look forward to the movies, I'm watching The Cremator and it's certainly strange, I feel a bit off watching it, awkward, for multiple reasons, but I kind of like that. I'll look into the other movies too, it'll just take a bit of time to get around to them all.

Have you seen the movie Alice? I haven't seen Svankmajer's other films, but they seem pretty interesting too! If not a little stranger (in concept).

Yeah, will do, I put your movies at the top of my list, I didn't know Jan created any short films, I guess I'll have to look into those too.
