I got the cane six times at school. Some people I talk to are horrified when I tell them I was caned, not once but several times, a few times with the maximum six of the best, over the desk skirt up. It wasn't brutal but our head sure knew how to make it hurt. I never knew any girl who didn't come out in tears.
However I want to assure everyone I never look back with any regrets about it because my canings were always very well deserved (although I might not have thought so at the time) and very fairly administered by the head. Of course it hurt like anything and I couldn't sit down properly for quite some time but I can honestly say the worst thing I ever suffered was a short term sore bottom and a realisation that misbehaviour brought consequences which was sometimes painful.
The other thing was that we knew that the head was at heart a very caring lady who really wanted the best for us but that did not include bad behaviour. A day or two after she caned a girl she'd have the girl back in her office and you would chat through your misbehaviour and any problems you might be having. We used to call it the 'therapy session' and we all agreed it was a lot less painful than the first therapy session that had taken place over the desk the day before.

I got the cane at 15 from my headmaster. Two strokes, one on each hand.

Ouch. Poor you. I got just one stroke of the cane on my hand at Junior school, and can't imagine how I would have had the courage to hold out my other hand for a second stroke. I got the cane bending over at secondary school - very painful because the minimum was 4 strokes,, but much 'easier' to take if you don't see the stroke coming@Lacylisa

@Lacylisa I got caned on my hands once, all my other canings I got bending over. Being caned on my hands was the worst by far.

@Disciplinarian Hi and thanks for your comments. I think your correct bending over would probably be less painfull but, girls were only caned on the hands at my school.

@Lacylisa My first caning was on my palms as well. 2 fairly light strokes when I was about 12. I was caned on my bottom when I was about 14 and again at 17. Unlike your school we were normally caned on the bottom which was safer as it avoided the danger of tendon damage from miss-hits. Did you get the slipper as well at your school?

@Lacylisa I managed to avoid the cane, but at primary school us boys had to wear short pants and we were always getting our bare legs smacked for the most trivial of things

@TheWildEcho I got the cane at school, although never at the hand. Whilst most punishments were on the bottom, I did get strapped on my hand, and I believe it was more painful than on the bottom.

@Lacylisa I am a strong supporter of the use of corporal punishment in schools but I believe the cane is better used on the buttocks than on the hands.

@isabelrider While I am not convinced any school punishment should be on the hands, when there is a far more obvious and safer place for corporal punishment, I think getting strapped on the hands is considerably less risky than using a cane on developing fingers and palms. According to a Scottish friend, its use in the classroom was frequent, and without any damage, other than intended.

@april50 I agree. If the palms are to be punished, I think it is safer with a strap rather than a cane

@isabelrider I would prefer the cane, indeed got it frequently at primary school on the hands, never the strap. Were you caned on both hands and backside?

The cane was given n the bottom at our school. In fact my parents would not have allowed either me or my sisters to be caned on the hand as they considered itlikely to cause injury@Oldmanjimbo

@NataliaT the padded bum is where punishment should be applied. Not the hand.

@april50 Safety is paramount. Adults who ignored it were unjustified. Hands are an inappropriate target, especially for cane strokes.
