I got it for smoking on the way to school. I was 16 at the time so could legally buy cigarettes but that didn't cut any ice. Over the desk I went, skirt up and six of the best across my knickers.

i got the cane off mum for smoking. I put the packet up the drain pipe to hide them but it rained and she found them on the path. I got more than 6 that day lol

@nevergiveup I was caned by my mother for smoking too. I usually just got the slipper at home but (being caught) smoking was a caning offence.

@nevergiveup My wife and I were both caned in 6th form at our respective schools for smoking. I don't know how common it was in other 6th forms but smoking seems to have being a caning offence in most schools in lower years.

@TommyBoy It seems unbelievable now but when I was your age it wasn't unusual for those of us still living at home to still be spanked. I think girls got it more at that age than boys did. My wife often got spanked by her parents in her twenties.

@nevergiveup All CP (not just the cane) was banned in state schools in 1986. It was still allowed in private schools but not for students whose fees were paid by the education authority. It was totally banned in English schools in 1998; Scottish schools in 2000 and Northern Irish schools in 2003. It had already been banned in schools in the Republic of Ireland (a separate country) in 1982.

Most European countries had banned it much earlier. Luxembourg, for example, banned it in 1845!

@Sharon The use of cp had of course declined a lot before the bans. A few private schools nevertheless still advertised the fact that they retained the cane in the 80s and 90s and, apparently, were popular with parents.

I didn’t know about Luxembourg!

@TommyBoy I'm not sure if it's age or experience. Those of us who were caned in 6th form had been caned a few times before too.
