I Ugh

Burma’s ethnic Rohingya Muslims are fleeing for their lives. Thousands of their homes were burned and many were killed and raped by Burmese soldiers. Burma’s military and civilian officials dismissed reports of these horrors as “fabricated news and rumors” and accused the Rohingya of burning their own homes.. hgh, can you believe it. Wake up world!!

People only care about the tragedies that either hit close to home or they can relate to. Sadly this gets censored by your local government and without proof the international media doesn't risk releasing a story that could backfire on them (also since people don't care - low audience).

The media only covers what adds more to their budgets. Apparently, a tragedy that happens in a "rich" country matters more.

Well, technically it does. Not from the humane point of view but from the economic of the media. If they cover a tragedy in a "rich" country they get a lot of audience as all those people in the rich country will identify with the victims "oh no that could happen HERE! What if it was me?" but if it happens in some underdeveloped country they're like "what.. oh those savages are killing eachother over some religious crazy thing again, pff savages, that would never hapen if they were civilised like me" and switches the channel, the network loses money, if the network loses money people lose jobs, those people are who choose the news so they think "i keep my job, or i try some ethical news making?" and usualy keeping your job wins, some honest news making does slip trough the cracks in the respectable networks though!
