I Want to Talk About Religion Peacefully

Heading into the prison for a three day retreat with 60 inmates. Residents Encounter Christ is a powerful experience and has changed many lives. Anyone who prays I would appreciate your prayers that our little team will be used in a great way to bring men to Jesus.

As a guy who used to work with prisoners, up close and personal, you need to ALWAYS be aware that things could go south really, really fast. Don't trust an inmate. Doesn't mean you can't do your work. But it does mean what they're saying is not necessarily what they're thinking.

@Ynotisay That's good advice.

Your so correct. I hzve been doing this weekly for over 14 years.

My brother is involved in prison ministry as well. I believe he'll be doing it this weekend too. I'll be praying that the Lord gives you His words to speak, his eyes to see, his heart to express his love to each person you meet. I'll also pray that he prepares the hearts of each person you speak with, that a seed would be planted and would grow within their soul... that they would come to a saving knowledge and relationship with the God who created and loves them so much. ☺

May you be blessed personally as you continue in this ministry.
@SW-User that is a great prayer to pray.

Both of my grandpas are retired preachers. They use to do prison ministry. I think it would be both neat and sad to talk to inmates. (Sad because of their stories!)

@Ynotisay i understand. It would be hard for me to sympathize with a lot of inmates. But I’m sure there are lots with tragic pasts, or maybe just got caught up in something bad. I think I would try to understand where they’re coming from. But I’ve bever spoken with one, so idk.

@OllyCat12 If you ever get a chance, a lot of big prisons have tours and other opportunities where you can get an up close and personal look. I think you might really get something out of it. I think most people would. I'm pretty sure it would change the opinions that many have about prisons. And it would DEFINITELY make people appreciate their freedom.

I think I would love something like that! Maybe I’ll do it one day :) @Ynotisay

I know someone who did that. His conviction was admired- even though recruitment always failed. His best success was when he stopped talking about God and Jesus and started treating inmates as men with working brains and a possible future.
I couldn’t have said it any better than Gethsemane. I pray for safety too.
