@livingaloha I had to hand wash for a long time. My new house has a dishwasher, and you can bet I use it when I have a lot of dishes. Actually, a dishwasher uses such high heat, that it sanitizes dishes, something we can't really do when hand washing. But, I also use paper plates for certain foods. Hard to get out of that habit, LOL

@Xena1234 Yeah, I'm sure dishwashers do a great job and comes in handy for big jobs. But I like taking my time and talking while my daughters clear the table and help rinse.

@livingaloha Myself and my sister had to do the dishes every night for seven people while growing up. My father would be an SOB at times, and make us wash every dish in the house - even the ones that were not dirty - if we left a spot on a dish. It has always been my least favorite chore. I can hand wash if I have to, just don't like to.

@approachingmyexpirationdate Totally agree! Cooking dinner together, enjoying a home cooked meal, then washing dishes and cleaning up as a family...does anyone else do that anymore? Damn I feel old!

Please talk to your step mom dishwasher saves water and energy...i guess depending upon how old it is. The kitchen tap can go as high as 4 to 6 Gallon per min water discharge.

Well, it uses a lot of water and energy.
I always wash dishes by hand, but, I live alone, so there's never all that much to wash, plus, I don't have a dishwasher. I've never had one - never thought I needed one.

Yeah, I really enjoy it too actually my mum uses the dishwasher but I always forget about it and just wash by hand, kinda therapeutic.
