Blue skies turns gray
Yesterday was such a beautiful day. Sunshiny, blue sky and a soft breeze made up my day as I continued to clean up our yard.
About 4pm, I noticed this huge gray ... mass..cloud approaching from afar, over the next mountain top, it was traveling my way.
It kept expanding, getting bigger..wider and the breeze begun to smell like burning wood.
Within a half hour the sky over me was becoming dark and gray. My heart was beating out of my chest, worried a forest fire had broke out.
I texted my closest neighbor and told them to look up towards our place. They told me they saw the gray mass approaching too.
No one knew what was on fire but we needed to get out of the holler just in case.
My husband was about a mile back in the woods clearing..thinning out the underbrush and saplings. I jumped in the golf cart to find him and by that time, the smoke was so thick I can't even see the other mountains across the creek.
He was high-tailing back home and we met on the logging path.. a road...and he was anxious as well.
We got back home and was getting ready to gather our pets and get the hell out of Dodge! When our neighbors texted us that the heavy smoke that covered us was a "controlled fire-burn" that was occurring 55 miles away in Virginia!!! OMG
It even had traveled another 10 miles to the next town. It had engulfed us all.
It took 2hrs later for the smoke to clear and the blue sky to return. Talking about shaking knees and heart pounding experience..
