Long break from SW (long post)

Hey.

I know I’ve been off SW for a long time now. I think I just needed a break. With all the political stuff going on, I was afraid the trolls were making it a miserable place to be.

I wanted to enjoy my December holidays with as little crap from the outside world as possible. Luckily, the December holidays went well.

I was pretty upset by the terrorist attack in DC last Weds. And as fate would have it - right at that time I was preparing for a major job interview.

You know that I’ve been pretty jaded about work in general for a long time now. Well, a few months ago, I saw a job opening that really caught my attention. The title is Writer/Editor, and it actually concerns subject matter that I’m interested in! The job is in a setting where I’ve worked before, so I have experience with some of the “work culture” stuff. It’s full-time permanent, the salary is a little higher than my last FTP job - and it’s totally remote.

This is like finding a unicorn, so I applied for it. Then I forgot all about it for two or three months, and then the recruiter contacted me to set up an interview.

Long story short: The insurrection was Weds. January 6. My interview was scheduled for Friday January 8. I was pretty anxious about the Y’all Qaeda terrorist attack, and I thought about asking for the interview to be postponed.

I ended up doing the interview at the time we’d set. The whole thing took about two and a half hours, involved five of their staff, and included an editing test - so I think they’re serious.

I managed to put the anxiety about the terrorist attack on the back burner for a couple of days while I prepped for the interview. I think the interview went pretty well, but of course you never know for sure.

Sure enough, after the interview was over, my anxiety about the terrorist attack came roaring back. Mr. Kat and everyday life are helping me chill out, and I do have a prescription for Ativan.

So.....if we don’t end up in a real life “Handmaid’s Tale” - I might get a terrific new job. If I don’t get the job - disappointing but not the end of the world. I’m on a technical writing contract that’s supposed to last through September, and it’s remote because of COVID.
