I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday

I travel a lot for work. On 9/11, I was landing in Miami at 8:15 AM. As I went to get my rental car, they were reporting about the first plane hit. Just as I got my car, the second plane hit. I was on a two day trip and scheduled to stay in West Palm Beach for the night. We did not get any work done that day as everyone was glued to the TV. That evening we were under a curfew. I thought the entire country was but it was just West Palm Beach. It turned out that several of the terrorists had lived just a couple of miles from my hotel. I had a return flight ticket but as all airports were shut down, I ended up driving my rental car 800 miles to get home. When I got home, my car was still un-accessible at the airport parking lot. It was two more days before I could get my car back.

A friend of mine and his family were flying to Europe when the planes hit. Unaware that anything had happened, they landed, and were sequestered on the plane for several hours. Upon disembarking, they were still unaware of what was going on yet airport workers and other travelers were giving them condolences as they were walking through the terminal. They were terrified. They were unable to return to the US for quite sometime as nothing was flying.
