I Donate Blood

A Gift of Love

Do you know what your blood type is? Mine is O+. Today I gave blood for a client of ours.

I met this man once but he so impressed me with his honor and integrity. I met him under bad circumstances. He has a serious claims issue going on in his business and I had to deliver the bad news. I told my boss he was going to do one of 2 things, either argue with me or ask how he could fix the problem. He asked the right question.

When I heard he was suddenly stricken by leukemia, I asked how I could help. Today I donated and directed it to his account.

If you can, please donate. It really can save a life.

I used to donate on a regular basis. I donated in Aug at a local town function. Then again in Nov of the same year and received a notice saying they could not use my blood because it flagged some test they did on it. Meanwhile I had dr. do a blood test and absolutely nothing. In spring of following year I attempted to donate again, and once again I was notified that my blood was unusable and recommended to see Dr.

Apparently I was exposed to something, who knows what, anyway that was 20 years ago and I am still alive, lol

agreed, my dr. said their test are so sensitive that just about anything triggers them. But it is not like I am a derelict drug addict or anything like that, so it was quite odd. But, hey, when they sent the letter they made a reference to get tested for AIDS, which was 1000% impossible since I had never had a blood transfusion in my life and still have not, not gay, just normal monogamous heterosexual sex, who knows? No tattoos, no trips to weird places on the globe.

that is just plain weird if you ask me..i wonder if i will get a notice too? i had to sign a consent that said they will notify the health dept. if something comes up.

agreed

O- here, I can donate to anyone. It makes me feel even better when I go donate and they put my blood in the quad bags... Those are they ones they use for immediate emergencies where there is no time to type the patient, such as in the NICU...

i try to donate when i have the time...even more important when i knew who it was going to. the gentleman ended up passing not too long ago.

I'm sorry to hear that... But it was kind of you to donate in his name... I've donated about 100 pints in my lifetime... Just something I try to do 4-5 times a year...

A+
I was a frequent donor but on vacation till my baby is born. I'm also on BeTheMatch marrow registry :)

Maybe its cause I'm so used to it lol. I don't really read them anymore. Just check "yes" every time it asks if I'm feeling well today, have I read the educational materials, and if I have ever had a heart or lung condition.

Hopefully they can use your blood though. I'm only a match to my dad...everyone else is O+ or B+. On top of that, I found out my blood has a special antibody. The people drawing only mark the bags so they can't even explain to me what that is about. Don't think lab workers really have time so....
akindheart · 61-69, F
wow on that one. i am an O+ as you mentioned...i sure hope they use it after i gave it...

You might not believe this, but I have been giving playlets for nearly 30 years! I've donated over 7 gallons of platelets and sit on the board of directors of a blood center that covers nearly a score of hospitals and serves several million people. Blood and blood products do save lives!

They declined me last time I offered blood. I lived in Italy during the late eighties. Wonder if I'm still questionable.
akindheart · 61-69, F
that is weird. I had to tell them all the times i had been out of the country. I was sure China was going to flag me...but i made it.

Something about "mad cow" disease. I'm sure if I had been exposed something would manifest by now. I'll try again.
akindheart · 61-69, F
that is weird....i would sure check. that is from the tainted beef in England right?

Type A+ and I got a card, from the Red Cross, some years ago congratulating me on donating 5 gal. of it....yes that is gallons.
akindheart · 61-69, F
WOW!!!! that is so impressive!! do you still give?
bowman81
not regularly like I used to, but if there is a drive or person in need ... yes.

It is definitely one of the best gifts a person could ever give. And all it costs is a very little time. A kiss to you honey for your kindness and generosity.......

You live up to your profile name by giving. And saving lives too.
