I Enjoy Helping Others

"The greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being." — Tenzin Gyatso

Hi I'm Shaun. I'm 45. Been a sensitive forever. Didn't know what to call it for many long lonely years. I am a CNA (certified nurse aide). I work in hospice. I take care of the terminally ill and their families. I work in a hospital setting at night. Tried the day shift. Too much. Love my job. People think it's weird being around the dead and dying but for some reason it's not. I seem to have a knack for it. I started in a nursing home setting. I've worked on psych wards. Hated it. Felt very uncomfortable with them. Didn't much like nursing home setting either. Worked for state facility for 7 yrs they had psych. The nursing home was hard for me because a lot of those people are in that state for years. Some feel depressed, hopeless, alone, confused. It was a big place and I frequently felt overwhelmed emotionally. Just too much. By the time patients get to hospice they usually have been sick for a long time and they and their families are more accepting. They feel loss sure, but it's more peaceful.

I'm glad you've found your place in life, and you're a special person, I hope when its my time to go, there is someone caring there for me like you.

Thank you, that means a lot.

This may be true for some, but I believe there are certain people that feel nothing for others and don't understand why anyone would help someone unless there was something to be gained by it. Sad...

Good quote!

I just looked him up, he is the 14th Dalai Lama and was still alive at the time of the wiki entry.
I found the quote interesting because Jesus and His apostles taught much the same using different words.

I thought the name was familiar, I like the philosophy of Buddhism, its all about compassion for others as well as yourself, and that's what Jesus taught,
I like to think sages come to us throughout history to show us there's a different way.

I admire Buddhists but I am a fanatical bible student and hardcore believer (even if or particularly because) I will correct any pastor who strays from the bible to add something or who takes away from the bible. I only preach at misled Christians and when I offer advice to non-believers I try to phrase it like your quote above. That way if they ask me where I got my insight they have invited me to preach and if not, they still have good advice.
