I Think Too Many People Feel Entitled

There isn't much charity around, and people are increasingly feeling they have been robbed by previous generations rather than safeguarded. It really is a tragedy that this air of contempt for elders has become so prevalent among the young, who think they are entitled to something more rather than go out and do what the previous generations have done and earn their future.

I think it comes from that for the last few generations, especially but not exclusively in developed countries, each generation has had more opportunities, better prospects, than their parents.

In a world of increasingly tenuous employment for all but a comparative few, stagnant wages, obscene quantities of state regulation (even when it's well-intended), environmental degradation and its much more terrifying global cousin - young people increasingly HAVE been robbed by their parents and grandparents.

They got the birthright, and their children - us - got the mess of pottage.
