-What is probably the most famous Hollywood movie star Mustang, the 1968 Mustang fastback used by actor Steve McQueen in the movie "Bullitt" was found in a junkyard in Mexico in March of this year.
Steve McQueen played police detective Frank Bullitt in the movie. The highlight of the movie is one of the best car chase scenes ever filmed. The Mustang chases a Dodge Charger driven by bad guys.
The movie Mustang was actually two Mustangs. One was used for closeups with the actor and the other was the chase/stunt car. The one recently located in a junkyard in Mexico is the chase/stunt car. Once the owner realized what it was, and its identify has been 100% confirmed, he arranged for a complete restoration which it is undergoing now.
@Peaches: That was part of the Deluxe Interior option for 1965 and 1966 Mustangs. Today enthusiasts call it the "Pony" Interior. Great looking interior, especially with the two tone colors. And it was front and back seats.
@ILoveAStrewberry: Believe it or not, Steve McQueen himself when he was still alive tried to by the other Bullitt Mustang, the one used for close ups. But the guy who owned that one wouldn't even sell it to him. Imagine what kind of check Steve McQueen would have been able to write.
