Why does he keep trying to fight

There is no way to discuss important matters regarding the kids. He just wants to argue with me. He tries to pull me into battles that dont make sense. Im so frustrated. Why cant he be normal? Example, I said i needed help with one child and he started defending himself as if i was saying he does nothing with the child and wrote me a huge text defending himself. Like oh my goodness. I cant anymore
