I Am From The Millennial Generation

I am sick to the point of screaming of Millennials getting blamed for everything. We've become the scapegoat for every problem in America and I hate it. We're told that we're lazy, selfish, obsessed with phones, only care about ourselves, and I'm done holding my tongue. I'm giving my rebuttal to every accusation I've heard hurled at my generation, and will probably add more as they continue to be flung at me.

"You expect everything handed to you because of participation trophies!" Well it was Boomers and Gen X who raised us and gave us those participation trophies.

"You're glued to your smartphone!" And you watch eight hours of TV everyday, so I fail to see the difference.

"When I was your age, I had a mortgage, a wife, two kids, and supported it all on my own!" Times change, and we can't provide for a family on a security guard or mailman salary like you did.

"You need to grow up!" We have grown up, the youngest a Millennial can be is 25.

"You're being disrespectful!" Says the person who blamed me for every problem in the world.

"The world is messed up because of your generation!" The last time I checked it was Boomers and Gen X who hold the vast majority of the power in America, not Millennials.

"You're killing the (whatever) industry by not buying (product)!" If that industry can't figure out a way to get us buying it, then it should fail.

"You care more about the environment than you do about people having jobs!" Yes, generally speaking we do, and that's a good thing to me.

Pretty good rant, I'd say. Us old "Boomers" got and still get blamed for a lot also, as evidenced in what you said. As a 63 year old who has never said anything of those things, except for criticism of people in general being glued to their smart phones and ignoring those around them...the first verse of a great song:

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

@Piper I blame every generation. They're all retarded in their own funny ways.

Boomers destroyed the country.

Gen-X is the generation of Karens.

Millenials are basically worthless.

Zoomers should probably be shot into the sun before it's too late.

@QuixoticSoul My name ain't Karen

@QuixoticSoul Okay, then. 🙃

@SW-User Consider yourself fortunate.
Piper · 61-69, F
@QuixoticSoul Just out of curiosity, why?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Piper Why what?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Piper I tend to notice that the Boomer generation skews traditionalist and stodgy to the point of madness, but I feel bad for the cool Boomers like you who just get caught in the crossfire.
Piper · 61-69, F
@QuixoticSoul Why I should consider myself "fortunate", of course.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Piper Oh, that was a sub-conversation, not directed at you, sorry.
Piper · 61-69, F
@BlueVeins Kind of you, to acknowledge that I and many "Boomers" are cool. :)

I do hope you know, that many in the "Boomer" generation have been bucking... outspoken about traditionalist and stodgy views we thought were unreasonable or wrong often and loudly, since we were as young as you are.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Piper Yeah, and I applaud the generation's success in ending the living Hell that was the Vietnam War... Do you think the Boomers changed, or was it the rest of the world, around them?
Piper · 61-69, F
@BlueVeins Many Boomers did not change.

@QuixoticSoul I am just me I refuse to have a lable attached to me.
Disliking people and labeling them because of the era they come out of seems misguided to me and makes one assume a lot.
