Interestingly, I've never read Epictetus although I've read some other Stoics and similar philosophers.
I should read him; so I thank you for your inspiration.
I can combine this with my bibliophile interests. i see there is a rather handsome Limited Editions Club book available with some interesting art. (I know this sounds more epicurian than stoic) I'll have to see if there is a fine copy at a reasonable price: the mantra of the gentle madness of book collecting.

As a follow-up, I received a message from a LibraryThing fellow-enthusiast of LimitedEditionsClub editions (the group is called GeorgeMacyDevotees after the founder/head of this marvelous institution, founded in the depths of the Great Depression). He has a duplicate near-fine copy to sell at a reasonable price so we will make a deal.

@LamontCranston Beautiful! Worth getting and keeping, or as a gift. I'm vaguely aware of the Limited Editions Club. I believe it published a beautiful edition of Diary of a Country Priest many years ago. Or,am I thinking of a different publisher?

@LeeInTheNorthWoods The LEC did an edition of the "Diary" late in its history, in 1986. In those last few years they were transitioning toward a smaller run at increased price focusing on the art: "livre d'artiste" books.That was limited to a thousand copies.
The art in Epictetus is quite excellent by Hans Erni but the focus is on the book.

@LamontCranston Thank you for your comment, “Shadow” alter ego. Did you ever see the 90s movie of that title, starring Alec Baldwin as the Shadow?….
LamontCranston · M
@Thorstormbringer I did.
