I've been in therapy for years, I used to have a psychotherapist who prescribed medication, and she started to want to charge me way too much just because I said I got my finances in order, I still don't have a good amount of income. So I am seeing a new psychiatrist who took me off extra medication the last shrink had me on for years. She said I'm not perfect but the other medication won't make a difference and there is no point in putting extra stuff in my body or paying for it. I agree and have been doing good. I've been using a texting therapy app for the past few months when again my therapist I got through my insurance covid benefits said I don't need therapy. I've been doing good with the app which is really more of a life coach and therapy app. And then I've dealt with some stressful things and feel more of a disconnect and lack of response. I still wanted to continue though to feel like I was getting my thoughts down with the therapist. Then the app tried to charge me 4 days early when it's usually 2 and already a bit awkward. I'm starting to think I don't need therapy as I don't want to be a needy person. I might join a once a month long group that's affordable as I miss group that also got cut off from my insurance. I also want to go to Food Addicts Anonymous to control my eating as it the most emotional thing I over do. How do I approach stopping therapy without needing a therapist to do it.

It sounds like you just need someone to talk to and discuss things that are going on in your life, and you don't need a therapist to do that you just need someone you can trust. I think it's a good idea to join a group and you can get things off your chest that way. But i also think you should do things gradually abruptly might have negative consequences.

@Lostpoet That’s what worked for people decades ago when they lived in close-knit communities. Society has become so alienated from one another that they feel they must pay to talk out things with another human being.

@cherokeepatti Profound, then maybe I don't need to beat up on myself for not having friends, this is what it comes down to, that we are alienated from each other. Maybe in time that trend will be reversed.Lostpoet I agree with what you said as well.

The day i realized all they were doing was coaching me to solve my own problems and when they started telling me how to feel instead of asking me how i felt.

Well you just got a good clue about her nature didn’t you? She wants more of your money now

when you do not feel the need to use a therapist as a source of discovering yourself.
