I Am a Man
I see so many posts from women on EP that derogatory toward men. ba<x>sed on some of the things some of my female friends share with me about the messages they get.....I can't say I blame them for feeling this way. It got me to thinking about what I think being a true man means. For better or worse.... I will offer my definition.
A Man is someone who:
< is strong enough to say he is sorry
< is unabashedly unafraid to discuss his feelings with his partner
< does the right thing when no one is looking
< keeps his word
< considers his partner his equal in all things.
< will make sacrifices without having to tell anyone.
< will be a leader..... Not through commands or directives... But by the example he sets.
< would die to protect the honor and safety of his family and friends.
< believes that compassion is not weakness.
< believes that kindness is the most powerful weapon.
< understands the power of words. He know the damage hurtful words can cause and the healing beautiful words can facilitate.
< is introspective
< that thinks for them self and formulated his life philosophy not ba<x>sed on his past trauma or current peer pressure.
< doesn't talk about doing things.... He simply does them.
<understands that every life has purpose and that we are all connected.
< has a desire to look in the mirror and want to be a better person.
< understands that true strength comes from the quality and depth of their integrity.
Our culture teaches us that men are not supposed to cry. We are indoctrinated at an early age that crying is weakness. We are taught that mercy is weak. We are taught that aggression is how to solve problems.
I am a warrior. I served in the Army, have done extreme sports, was a bounty hunter even....
But over the years I realized that true strength isn't an outward focus of aggression, but instead an inward self examination on how I can change to leave the world a little bit better than I found it....
