That picture makes me shudder. I watched the first tower on fire and then the plane hurtle into the second one.

I was watching the first strike and then the second one live on the Today Show. I never will forget and over the years, learned what really happened and why. What a devastating day and still going through similar today.馃様馃嚭馃嚫 @Moonpenny
@Moonpenny Were you there when it happened ?
MoonpennyF
@bijouxbroussard In NY? No. I was in the Middle East. Those were tricky times 馃槵
@Moonpenny I can imagine. 馃檨
MoonpennyF
@bijouxbroussard The American Embassy, The American School and the British School....they all had to be blockaded and have heavy security around them. I wouldn't be surprised if they still have.

@Moonpenny I was walking to Grand Central to meet some of my colleagues who'd arrived that day we saw the first collapse as we were walking back to our office. I'll never forget the dust and especially the taste of it over that day and the subsequent few in the city. The taste of death.

My poor wife was working a friend in the playground said isn't it awful in NYC. She nearly collapsed and our friend said "Oh God he's not there this week?". Horrible day.
Oster1M
@Moonpenny Very interesting. Did you live there or in the British Military?
MoonpennyF
@SW-User Oh no, I bet. And all the communication lines had gone down. Awful 馃槹
MoonpennyF
@Oster1 I lived out there, yes.
Oster1M
@Moonpenny Wow! That鈥檚 an experience you will never forget. I鈥檝e been reading you today. Thank you for your insight. It must of been a fearful time. The story is not what most understand. It was truly so unbelievable that our own would turn against us, like they did.

@Moonpenny I managed to get a line out and left a message with my friend who was that day at our house. I also was able to talk to the UK office. They talked to my wife in the evening but we did not talk until the following morning.
MoonpennyF
@SW-User She must have been beside herself!

@Moonpenny I told her I wasn't too close. Then some years later we went on holiday to NYC and she realised that wasn't that true in the scheme of the planet or a country really.
MoonpennyF
@SW-User That's when white lies are necessary.

@Moonpenny so two of our party did head downtown that morning. They returned to us covered in dust as they'd been walking back when the first tower fell. On one anniversary one of them tagged me on Facebook and she was more upset again.

I got an award from my company for my leadership through that week.
I got everyone on the first flight I could out of Newark and made sure at Heathrow they were all in a limo home and called each of their families to tell them they were on their way. I was last to leave with our exec director who'd come to make sure we were all OK. Some people showed who they really were.

The first guy I spoke to in UK office ended up sone years later my first aa sponsor. He was sadly murdered a bit later. He was a lovely man

Oh sorry to hear that.
