I Have a Difficult Decision to Make
I am an engineer. My job isn't so much. What I do have is:
1. The best boss I'll ever have
2. Years of stable work
3. Decent $
4. A 45 minute commute
5. Work that isn't that interesting
Now, Ford Motor Co. needs software engineers badly, so they offer me:
1. A 25% raise
2. Engineering opportunities
3. Half the commute
4. No promises about the health of the work environment (but I met with my would-be supervisors and they seem fine)
5. A 1-year contract. I'm told they often renew.
Now I gave my boss the bad news and he surprised me by trying to compete. He can match the salary and offers the option to telecommute. He can't offer the career options and Ford can't offer stability nor the certainty of the tone of the work environment. Don't know what I'm going to do.
