I Love Depeche Mode

I've been a Depeche Mode fan since I was 14 years old. The first song I listened to was "People are people" on the radio. A couple years later, an old friend of mine purchased the "Best of" Album which I listened to heavily and got hooked to. Today, I own all thirteen albums made by DM. Still working on listening to all the B sides they released as well.

I think it's impressive how they evolved overtime since their inception in the 1980's. They popularized usage of the synthesizer as the dominant instrument of that decade. However, DM has always managed to craft their work without presenting more of the same throughout the years. I found that each album carries a different energy and vibe when listened to. You really start to note the complexity of electronic sounds synchronized into each song, coupled with their meaningful lyrics. Martin Gore has done an outstanding job as the bands chief songwriter. With the recent releases, Dave Gahan has also contributed lyrically and created some awesome songs. I think they did alright on respective solo projects such as MG and Soul Savers.

I don't know if I could pick a definite favorite album, but if I had to, it would be Playing The Angel (2005). I like how the latter half of the album progresses towards gloomier tones and sounds, ending with The Darkest Star, a song which truly finishes the album with a looming feeling of hopelessness. Dramatic, maybe. Still, I like it.

It would be worth while going to see them live in concert. But that all depends if they come out with another album or decide to do a farewell tour.

Would love to have DM talk with anyone who is a fan here.
