I Love Depeche Mode
Their latest album, Spirit, is pretty good. It shows they still hold up in terms of originality and direction, though most pop music today, however inferior, manages to overshadow it. They couldn't just stick to the same sound since they started in 1980. Otherwise, DM would have been disbanded long ago. Thats what happened to most 80's bands; they stayed in the 80's. While shifting its form over each decade, DM has managed to keep its core energy intact. I think it is awesome they have been playing music for almost forty years.
I recommend Poison Heart and Scum. The singles are good, but I liked the other songs much better. If your looking for a great album to listen to in 2017, Spirit is the way to go. In comparing to other albums, its a bit hard to pick which ones sound similar to this one. A lot of people say it sounds like Ultra B-sides. To me, parts of it sound like Dave Gahan's Soul Savers (another decent one, though I wasn't crazy into it). I also found elements of Delta Machine, Playing The Angel, and Exciter in Spirit. Any DM albums going from 1990's to the beginning, not so much.
