I know they'd accept me. They probably already know. It's just that I don't know how to start the conversation.

Is it something that really needs to be talked about? If I prefer a color other than what others expect me to prefer, I don't see the importance of voicing my preference. I wouldn't bring it up unless they ask. And then, I would let them know just matter-of-factly. No need for discussion. If you make it something incidental, they're more likely to, as well.
