I Am In the Process of Writing a Book

Today, after about two months of daily effort (about 4-6 hours a day with Sundays off) I completed the short (118 pages) book I wrote at the request of long time friend. It is a series of true short stories that comprise a memoir of my 10 years working as a teacher in a public mental hospital for the criminally insane.

Today was frustrating. I just spent 6 days editing and correcting it. Today's job was going to be relatively simple and my last day of working on it. The plan was to enlarge the type font from 12 to 14 pt., print out a copy, then go get several copies made, go to the bank and get a money order for the copyright fee, go to the post office and mail a copy to my long time friend and one with fee to the Library of Congress copyright office.

Instead, I got into a war with the computer and the printer. It took many hours and the help of a friend to get the printer to accept the "simple" type change and to manage to print out one clear 14 pt.type copy. By that time I was exhausted and both the bank and the post office had closed.

Since tomorrow is Sunday and I have a dentist appointment on Monday...it's looking like I won't be winding up this project until Tuesday.

I am exhausted and frustrated and wish I could have this book project wrapped up so I could rest and then celebrate.
What an amazing accompaniment Greenmountaingal.
Wow.
I am in the rudimentary stages of writing my book.
A memoir, also.

P.S. Yeah, the inanimate objects, with the hassle they give us;
I'd SWEAR the have a clue ;) rofl...

What is your memoir about? Your life in general or a specific part of it? Thank you for your kind words. I've worked hard all summer on this and I'm exhausted. After I register a copyright with the Library of Congress, I plan to celebrate.

You're a quick writer. I have tried writing a advanced plot for a book for about... one and a half year now, and I am not even halfway there.

Unless you have a lot of experience writing fiction, you might be taking on too much by having a lot of characters. Maybe just take one or two of the characters and concentrate on writing their stories first...?

@greenmountaingal: Perhaps, but it's the story of a lifetime you know? :(

@MartinTheFirst: Writing itself is a lifetime endeavor. From the look of your stated age category, you have enough time ahead of you to start slowly and learn the craft. My father was a writer and one thing I learned from him is that it doesn't help to pile too much on your plate. Consider the saying, "Finished is better than perfect." Maybe you could put aside your magnum opus for a while and take on a simpler less intricately plotted work. If you really feel that this one project is the only one for you, then create a realistic schedule. 15 minutes a day is a lot if you keep at it. Alexander Dumas (elder) said anyone can write a novel; one page a day and in a year, you can produce a novel. Maybe your sessions are too long or you are demanding too much of yourself at each session. Short sessions on a schedule with a self-created dated deadline might be the answer.
