I Think About Odd Things Sometimes

How are you? How is your day going? How have you been? Have you ever tried to count how many times a day you are asked to put a label on your current disposition? I find it rather peculiar that neither party involved, ever seem to have a vested interest in the answer.

When was the last time your disposition was solicited, and you genuinely took the time to think about your answer. I feel like most people only answer out of pure habit, and rarely, if ever, give the inquiry much thought at all!

I guess this is just one more thing to add to the never-ending list of things that separates me from most people! Because I interpret these requests literally, they become a major source of distress in my life. Every time someone asks me how I am, and I am not doing well, I am torn between breaking the status quo and conforming to social norms.

Being honest, unnecessarily adds negativity to their lives. While conversely causing me to feel dishonest if I participate in their robotic, ritualistic pleasentries!

To mitigate the distress, I give strategically ambiguous answers, that leave open a window of opportunity to gauge their reaction. If the ambiguity suffices, giving an honest answer is not required, which frees me of the guilt caused by my lack of authenticity.

Yeah. It's not really meant. Unless they make it serious. If it's just casual, it's just a greeting.

Good solution?
