I Have Something to Say

I am a solitary person but I have an interest in people which has drawn me to sites like SW and EP before it. Most who write and post are not so forthcoming in person, they tend to spill more of their deep dark secrets and concerns anonymously, as do I. I consider myself to be empathetic and when I read about heartache, anxiety, illness, rejection, conflict and insecurities I recognize these as problems I have experienced too. They're so very painful, I'm sorry for it but I know it's necessary; how else would we learn?

When one is young, problems are bumps in a once smooth road that are encountered for the very first time and they seem to be monumental obstacles to happiness and contentment. Admittedly they are jarring and slow down the progress toward adulthood but what is least understood is that those trials are necessary, they are learning experiences, shocking and foreign to those who have little to compare them to. In time we learn to accept and adjust, to compare the worst of the worst, both ours and other's and we come to understand that we can't appreciate the highs unless we have lived through the lows. Still, some suffer more than others.

I am pleased to find my road a bit smoother now but I expect there may still be a bump or two ahead before I'm done. I'm not very concerned, I've probably seen these before and survived. Someone once told me not to be so quick to solve problems, there is always another one right behind it. I've found that to be very true.

Aha, the reason they invented shock absorbers....they don't smooth out the bumps, just make it easier to maintain control. I would much rather have smooth roads, but it is nice to know I can handle a pothole or two.

And some problems have no solutions...only consequences.

True, and their is wisdom in this. I also think that accepting advice from authority figures can save time and trouble, for those who can humbly accept that hard personal experience is not the only way to learn.
