I Have Something to Say

Every time something bad happens, we get told, “This is a learning experience; you should be grateful for it.”

OK. Let’s say it’s a learning experience. Presumably, we learn things so we can use that knowledge in the future.

Will I get a chance to use what I’ve learned in the future? If not - it’s hard to see it as a lesson. If I won’t get a chance to use the knowledge, that feels more like a punishment.

I don't see where grateful is the word I'd use....

I think of it this way....
Every time you are near a horse, you teach it something.

Whether it can run away from you, run over you, or, submit to you.. IF it chooses to submit... there are more challenges.. how much will you allow?
Biting, nipping kicking? If not, what are the consequences?

Life in itself is a learning experience. .. with every person you meet.
Some you learn that it's best not to trust. .
Some, you learn, love you.
And you don't even know why.

Just like riding a horse. .. you keep your hands soft, your arse in the middle. . And throw your heart over the jump.

It's neither a lesson nor a punishment, but it is through those hard times that we find our strength, and sometimes we come out of them better people, kinder, more compassionate and with more depth.

When someone tells me that I want to punch them in the throat and say "Let this be a learning experience".
Bad shit is bad shit and nothing to be grateful for.

It seems to be a feel good, coping mechanism to talk about learning, blah, blah, blah. Not many people want to say "that sucks & most likely is going to continue to suck" even if that is the truth.

I completely understand. Its hard to see how you'll use your hardship for anything other than warning other people to avoid your pain.

You can only learn from it if you have some control over whether it's repeatable or not.
