[i]More troublesome than enemies[/i] - People who we are not convinced would be sympathetically inclined towards us under all circumstances but to whom we are for any reason (e.g.gratitude) on our part obligated to maintain the appearance of unconditional sympathy torment our imagination much more than our enemies do.
from Human, All Too Human, there are sooooooo many aphorisms in this part of the book that i like, i'd need to get the kindle of it to share as many as i'd like if i were to not utterly ruin my fingers in the expenditure of toil required thus to do so. :)
