I Am a Teacher

Dear Teacher,

You are a glorified babysitter and you aren't worth your pay. You even get paid vacation time for the entire summer, I wish my job provided me with a 3 month vacation. You get holidays off even, you really have it made, you don't work weekend's or overtime. You get to be home with your family so you don't miss out. I don't understand why I need to purchase your classroom supplies use some of the free money you get in the summer for babysitting my kid even when he's with me....

Dear Teacher,

You're a glorified babysitter I am not wasting time to meet with you. My kids grades are your fault, my kids behavior is your fault, she's an angel at home so it's obviously you. You get paid for taking care of him so during the school day he's your responsibility. I don't want my child tested for an IEP you have a problem you just don't like her. My kid is smarter than kids grade levels above him you're grading him wrong.

Dear Parent,

I didn't realize I was getting a paid summer long vacation I work for my check the same as you those long 9 months when I'm teaching your child during school. You see it just gets paid out a little different than yours, they give me a portion each pay day so I get the same amount all year so I'm not back flipping burgers at McDonalds like I did as a teen. I can't remember the last raise I got but if I were being honest and could afford it I do this job for free. I can't remember the last time I didn't work overtime there's been lesson plans and grades and emails to write. I spend so much time reading your emails about everything being my fault I fail to enjoy those weekends I barley notice I get off. I cherish my family time I do godson's 6 and
my baby's 2. I would love to spend this Saturday making dino slime and tasty playdough, but these emails won't stop and there's those lesson plans you know. I see more of your child's plays and functions than I do mine. Last year I think I missed every PTC for mine while I set there waiting for you not to show up. I hear you about those school supplies and trust me I buy them too, it's hard to buy for 20 kids all year alone I really need some money to provide for my own at home.

Dear Parent

I just spent $261 to start our school year it's okay if you don't want to fill the list but can you at least get what your own child will need even that will help (every church and even our school distract gave away supplies to those who couldn't afford it) mine left the store in tears cause she didn't get some random toy I hated telling her no, but her tantrums are mine and her dads fault cause normally we don't. People were staring like I came from the swamp cause my little girl wouldn't stop. These school supplies cut into our budget way too much looks like this week we'll all be packing our lunch. In a couple years when she starts school I'll blame my angels behavior on her glorified babysitter too.

Dear Parent,

I see your child struggle and it breaks my heart. When I talk about IEP I'm not suggesting he's not smart. I don't know how your angel behaves at home with you I only see her interrupting the classroom once again I'm a parent too so I get it I do understand what she is with me might not be how she behaves with you.

Forget it!

Dear Parent,

Your child's a pleasure to have in class. You must be proud of him. If you need help with providing school supplies please don't worry I bought a small stockpile so need to hurry with that list. Yes your daughter is the most advanced in class I'm amazed she can write like that. We have no need for IEPs or behavior plans. I'd much rather listen to your boy as he stumbles over some lines in the play than watch my own kid stand quietly as a tree. I'm not going to feel bad missing my kids first night at dance its back to school night please give me a chance to show you I'm not just a glorified babysitter

-Your child's tired teacher who does so much extra unpaid overtime and spends so much out of pocket.

I've walked that path. Gave and gave of myself with no thanks, recogniztion, or payback for everything I generously provided with my $25,000 a year teacher salary! Provide extra time, tutoring, school supplies, lunches and snacks so kids wouldn't go hungry, hours and hours of time to lesson plans and creating units and new lessons to try to make it fun!

@IBHappy It's definitely for the love of it for sure, if it were for the thanks or the paycheck it's not the career to choose. Thank you for the time you spent walking that path. :)
