I Am a Teacher

Next Monday another schoolyear will begin. It will make 21 years teaching for me. And yet I feel the same uncertainty.

Will my students be interested in my lessons? Will I get on well with them? Will I have to deal with many disruptive ones? Will there be moments when I see there is no point at all in teaching?

I guess it will be like this till the day I retire.

I think you're brilliant at what you do. I don't think teaching is for the faint-hearted. And to be dealing with rowdy teenagers who think they know more than you because they are so plugged Into the virtual world is not easy at all. And what more having to contend with negligent parents who treat school like a dumping ground for out-of-control kids. I think the work you do is immeasurably great, and I wish there were more respect to accorded to teachers there.

@novembermoon It is a good description. The latter is what I really miss. I am afraid when I retire we will be regarded as the same lazy people with too long holidays.
