I Like Woodworking

I'm a 3rd generation carpenter/woodworker, have done about anything and everything to do with woodworking at some point; don't get around to do much these days due to health/medical problems, but if anyone needs advice/tips, feel free to ask
Oh wow!! Sure...thanks for letting us know.

My son enjoys woodworking too. I think he's got it from my grandfather who did some woodworking in his 70's....馃槉

That is a fantastic skill to have. I have nothing but admiration for people who can create items from raw material such as wood.

I have always done more academic work myself but it enthrals me watching individuals skilled in practical work such as carpentry. Sorry to hear of your health problems. Wouldn't it be lovely if there were a fourth generation carpenter in your family too :)

@PhilDeep doubtful, kids these days just don't have the patience nor attention span for fundamental woodworking...

@wildbill83 These skills definitely require patience too. For someone who's pretty abysmal with their hands, I do admire them. I used to sit and watch a builder laying bricks when he was building for my father. He thought it was odd, but I found it soothing to see a tangible outcome of his work. Software development is very intangible until the product is used to some effect in the real world.

Your skill is one I wish I continued from my classes in elementary and high school. I'd love to have the ability to craft one of these...

@Sapio that's relatively easy; plywood pieces cut out on jigsaw/scroll saw and glued together.

Carving out detail from a single piece of wood like this is real talent...

@wildbill83 that's an amazing piece bro!

@Sapio mahogany too by the looks of it; hardwood is tough to hand carve, especially when harder than oak...
