You didn't answer my question. There should be a balance between discipline and letting a kid grow their life. I don't have a lot of respect for my dad with the way he's handled things.

I think this was a positive it taught me to be a good wife and serve my husband. We are raising our daughter the same.
GirlSerendipity · 26-30, F
why 'especially girls'?!?!?!?!?
Pop0159 · 61-69, M
No you should never forget the past .... at least for now focus on today and tomorrow and keeping yourself safe and off his radar .... Hopefully you will make a life on your own and truly be away from his authority ....

What do you mean by strict? It can get to abuse or unreasonable discipline.
Like beating with a belt or cane like with erik2000 or making a girl stay in her room for weekends like with bighappysmiles is too harsh.

bighappysmiles, Sorry that does sound way to strict .... are you on you own now or still living under he's roof?
Pop0159 · 61-69, M
@bighappysmiles, I don't know enough from what you have said to give an option on if grounding you first a weekend was appropriate ... I will say that if you were disciplined for something you didn't do oder didn't have control of that's not right ... on the other hand if the discipline was from something you did grounding for a weekend does not seam sever .... if you weren't grounded what other discipline do you think they should have used ???
bighappysmiles · 26-30, F
pop0159 i was not grounded for a weekend, I was grounded almost EVERY weekend for years. I wasn't even allowed to go to proms or dances. It started because my dad saw some guys saying immature stupid sexy stuff to me one day and decided I didn't belong out without his guardianship, except for school and family vacations. and he acted like it was my fault. My mom has been on my side but it wasn't enough.
bighappysmiles · 26-30, F
Parents should be parents but there is such a thing as too strict.

enellie : each family has its own way to discipline kids . It is a question of rules . It must be fair and right . Spankings , detention, extra chores , grounding , early curfew , mouthsoaping , lost of privilege ...parents have decide what to do and they have to communicate about it . But if a kid misbehaves , he has to know he deserves punishment
bighappysmiles · 26-30, F
Here's what I did wrong. He didn't like that guys looked at me and didn't trust that I could handle it myself, which brought a lot of fighting between him and my mom and the occasionally slap across my mom's face. So here I am now lashing out at him in my own way. Be careful what your strictness might create.

yes GirlSerendipity : read my previous answer to this question :
"yes LastSunrise ... consequences for misbehaving girls are far more heavy than for boys ( i know girls who had a non wanted baby at 15 ... ) but ok it is very important for both gender to feel strictly taken in hand "
don't you agree ?

bighappysmilees: of course, it must be a balance in the way to raise kids . I don't know your Dad and how he disciplined you but i am sure you will understand later why he was so strict with you ....
bighappysmiles · 26-30, F
My dad would make me stay in my room on weekends while my friends would all get together and have fun. I missed out on a lot because of this until I was almost 18. Do u think this is right and fair?
rv101010 · 61-69, M
bighappysmile : it depends of what you did wrong .... i guess you know the rules and you have not to be surprised to be punished
erik2000 · 22-25, M
I think that many parents are too lax, many of my friends never get punished for anything and I get the belt and the cane very often.
GirlSerendipity · 26-30, F
rv . . . not really . . . yeah a 15 year old girl can get pregnant and a boy can't, but otherwise what's the diff??
rv101010 · 61-69, M
Girlserendipity : ....It makes an océan of différence .....à girl Life fan be destroyed by such a misbehavior .....
rv101010 · 61-69, M
Yes . But honnestly , in my mind a girl is more vulnérable . But you are not obliged to share this opinion ....
bighappysmiles · 26-30, F
Still here at home but it's been better over the last 6 months or so. But the anger doesn't go away.

I had completely oblivious parents that forgot they had a daughter.
I turned out quite well!

Bighappysmiles : tx ! reasonable .. i hope so ... but very strict when needed and deserved
bighappysmiles · 26-30, F
Thank you for that. You're obviously far more reasonable than my dad was.
rv101010 · 61-69, M
bighappysmiles : i better understand now your reaction
GirlSerendipity · 26-30, F
but there's behavior that can destroy a boy too!!!
