I Have An Irrational Fear

I had a nail removal procedure and I am on recovery process. Doctors told me it was time to remove the dressing and start cleaning the wound by myself. But I am terrified of open wound and blood and I don't want to see it. So I kept the dressing. I know it's unhealthy but I am absolutely scared of leaving the wound open in order to see it all the time. I don't know what to do.

It will set up an infection if you don't remove the dressing and clean it. If you can't do it, have someone else do it for you.

Call your doctor’s office, and speak to the nurse about it. Tell her/him that you need help because you can’t do it yourself. Call soon, or you will get an infection. Just be truthful, and don’t be embarrassed. A lot of people are the same way.

The doctors should have got you started on opening and cleaning it, not just left you to it.

However, it will probably be better in reality than in imagination.
