Headphones, or earphones? Which do you prefer?

Earphones are easier to carry around and store. They are easier to misplace, though.

speakers > earphones > headphones > earbuds

I thought they were the same thing

Or at least earphones might mean earbuds.

the earphones are the old school flatheads the kind of hang in your ear
Earbuds are the plugs you stuff into your hearing canal.
