Onions are soft and noticeable when they're rotted. Like most 'root' veggies, they keep way longer than other foods. They were one of the things lasted through till next season back before refrigeration. Unless they're rotten and slimy, use em.

Check to see if they are OK. If not, bin them and buy some more. Why did you keep them that long anyway?
