I Need a Job
I mean, technically I'm supposed to have one. But for the second time in a row, I've been given an interview, a verbal job offer "we'll arrange an induction asap" and then nobody has got back to me. We're talking provincial minimum wage jobs, just for some much needed extra money so we can buy food and take our daughter out on the weekend, not some massive big city company where they do this regularly. I'm in the UK and I have NEVER heard of this happening with these kinds of jobs.
The first job, I was offered a position on the spot at interview. The experience I had they said they really valued (it was working on the deli in a supermarket) and they said they really needed me to start asap. They said they'd email over some right to work forms and then arrange an induction. Ten plus phone calls and emails from me later, no such thing arrived. I even left a note for the personnel manager in store asking to get back to me. Nothing.
This most recent job I interviewed for and the next day the man phoned to tell me I had the job, congrats etc and the general manager would contact me the following Monday to arrange an induction, so to be contactable and keep my phone on. I explained I needed a little time to arrange childcare for the day and a half of induction (the job is late evening/night but the induction is daytime) and he said fine, no problem. It's Wednesday evening now and no phone call. This morning I rang the shop and asked to check if they'd got the right details. I was told that the manager was out until 2pm today and she'd been in "meetings" so that was probably why she hadn't got back to me when they said she would. They said they'd pass my message on. Nothing so far. It's literally eight hours a week putting a delivery away, but I was so happy to get it.
I don't know what to do now. I've chased and I will continue to as far as I can, but I can't spend all day doing it, as I have my daughter. I'm also annoyed. If the situation was flipped, would they be pleased if I said I'd phone on a certain day and didn't, or would they think I was unprofessional and rude? Anyway, just a bit of a vent as I'm sick and tired of doing this now :(
