I Am Against Animal Cruelty
I am against abuse of any kind.
However, I believe that the worst possible abuse is that directed toward children and animals.
Spousal abuse is HORRIBLE and totally unacceptable, but women and wives do have volition - and generally a car - and can leave an abusive spouse. It may be extremely difficult for an abused woman to extricate herself from an abusive situation - particularly if children are involved - but it can be done.
Children and animals, however, do not have the wherewithal to leave an abusive situation - they have no money, they have no transportation, they have no housing. Their only hope is that the abuse is reported so that good samaritans can come to their rescue. But often, outsiders don't want to get involved, and leave the children or the pets to suffer.
And, in some ways, animal or pet abuse is even worse than child abuse - which is itself unimaginably horrible - because even children have some avenues of self-help which are unavailable to animals.
Children can report abuse to adults; animals can not do so.
