I have one that I feel passed by the board which was a remake of the original and which I also believe far exceeded the iconic version. I'm talking about True Grit. I think Jeff Bridges was a superior Rooster Cogburn, and in terms of 19th linguistics right down to the trap door underwear, it was superior in every way. Scenery, characters, weapons....this movie had it all, and I'm very picky about those things having been a living historian for many years and understanding the material culture, plus having worked in period film as a background artist. I can't tell you how many times I have watched this gem.

Well....I guess I would call your "best", my favorites. In order they would be:
Tombstone
True Grit
Jeremiah Johnson
The Searchers
Tom Horn
Little Big Man
