I Don't Get It, I Don't Just Don't Understand

i occasionally receive a private message from a new member, usually male, but a couple have been women, or said they were.

Some simply say "I want to get to know you"
To these, I invariably reply, "Why?"

I don't have a photo of a woman as my profile picture. I don't state my age. So, I ask why they've decided to know me. I'm curious. I really want to know why they chose me. Each one has become offended by my bad manners.

Why is it rude to ask someone what they find interesting about me?

I very rarely get the odd PM (even I get them ! 😆 ) And I haven't got a problem answering questions, although I leave the answers to personal questions quite vague. We chat for a while usually just a couple of exchanges but once it went on for about a week, there's not a lot to talk about on a PM level.

You are not being rude. Your response is the perfect one. If someone wants to get to know you then they already have a reason based on your stories. The trolls and the friend collectors will take offense but they are not people you want for friends.

I get people like this pm me. 99%of the time they are nice people.

@Mrblue123 Now, that makes sense. Caught off guard. So they have a script they expect us to follow, and unless we stick to the script, we throw them off their rhythm?

@romell and I am too. My curiosity is as valid as theirs. They are curious about me, and I'm curious about why they picked me? If any one of them said I've seen some of your stories, or I read your about me, or I like the replies you give on Q&A, I'd then proceed with a conversation. Instead they say I'm rude.

@romell Thanks. I do that. But in the case of these people, they don't give me a chance to find out who they are or if I might like them. The block me for my bad manners.
